:: The Home Service Force

Never heard of us? I'm not surprised. During the ten year history of the Home Service Force, from 1982 to 1992, very few civilians, territorial army or regular army personnel had either heard of, or served with, a unit of the Home Service Force. Yet there were, at its height, some 4,500 enlisted men in 48 companies all over the United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland which had its own arrangements for home defence).

This web site is dedicated to keeping alive the spirit of the Home Service Force that burned brightest during the latter years of the Cold War. [more]

:: An Introduction from the President - Colonel MJE Taylor CBE TD DL

"You Only Have To Ask"

I am delighted to welcome you to the Website of the Home Service Force Association, whose members have all served as Territorial soldiers and some also as Regular soldiers or have service with the RN, RM, RAF or the Cadet Forces. I know HSF Veterans well, having  served as national TA Colonel (HSF) from 1986 to 1989, coordinating HSF Batteries, Squadrons or Companies  which otherwise formed part of  well known Regiments or Corps TA Units all over England, Scotland and Wales.

I also have the privilege of representing The Association on COBSEO, The Confederation of British Service and Ex-Service Organisations, sitting alongside famous Regimental and Corps Veterans Associations and services-related charitable bodes such as The Royal British Legion, SSAFA, and BLESMA, as well as Services representatives. Increasingly COBSEO is being consulted as the one body which is in touch with the entire military community.

The HSFA, uniquely, directly and exclusively represents people who were Territorial Veterans, having served between 1985 and 1992, many with much wider experience in terms of skills, expertise, levels of responsibility and arm of service.

The Territorial soldier of today finds him/herself liable for active service, as we all know. What, however, if the same had been asked of The HSF?. Even now, our members are actively involved in local events.

You only have to ask.
